Lip reduction is a cosmetic surgical procedure to reduce the volume of upper or lower lips or both.
The normal proportions or ratio of the upper lip to the lower lip is 1/3rd to 2/3rd
When these proportions change or get inversed the lip appears larger or more fuller. Sometimes both the lips may be larger. Main indication for surgical correction is aesthetic reason.
What is the procedure?
It is usually done as an office procedure under local anesthesia. Pre operative markings are made and the excess tissue excised and sutured. Patient is advised a course of antibiotics and pain killers
Risks and Complications
There will considerable swelling of the operated lip and it takes 10-15 days for the swelling to subside. It takes 2-3 months to appreciate the complete results. Bleeding, infection mild asymmetry may occur.
